Eames Plastic Side Chair is a contemporary version of the legendary Fibreglass Chair. It was produced in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Museum of Modern Art's Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition and was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.

The maple wood bases are now available in differnet colours, Yellowish Maple, Dark Maple and Black Maple. The Hopsak cover in various colours can be combined at will with fourteen seat shell colours. Together with the bases this creates any number of individual possible combinations.

The average human height has increased worldwide by nearly 10 cm over the past 60 years, resulting in a growing awareness of the need to adapt the dimensions of classic chair designs to fit new proportions. In comparison to the taller heights of most tables and seating today, many people felt that the Eames Plastic Chairs were too low. Vitra is now responding to the requirements and needs of its customers by adding 20 mm to the height of the Eames Plastic Chairs DSX, DAX, DSR, DAR, DSW and DAW, while also revising the seat geometry. These modifications, which are aesthetically almost imperceptible, substantially increase the comfort of this classic chair design, especially in combination with contemporary tables.

Materials: Seat shell: dyed-through, recycled polypropylene, 100% recyclable.

Base: non-stackable wooden base in various shades of maple or honey-toned ash, stained and lacquered finish. Steel rod cross struts in basic dark.

Note: due to the composition of the recycled material, the seat shell colours exhibit very subtle specks of pigment.

Origin of wood: ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and maple (Acer platanoides) from Western Europe and/or Poland.
