The Grand Prix (model 3130) was introduced by Fritz Hansen at the Designers' Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen in 1957. Later that year the chair was displayed at the Triennale in Milan where it received the Grand Prix - the finest distinction of the exhibition. Originally the Grand Prix chair was introduced with a wooden and steel base. Today the chair is available with a chromed base.
The shell is in laminated moulded veneer. The outer veneer is sliced Oak or Walnut. It is also available in Coloured Ash. The chair is also available with front or full upholstery in fabric or leather. The base is 14 mm steel tubes in polished chrome - Black Chrome are also available for a surcharge - and leg ferrules of black synthetic material. The Grand Prix chair has 4 legs is stackable and has a standard seat height of 46.5 cm - it is also available in a seat height of 44cm for a surcharge.
