Vitra Eames DAR Chair Fully Upholstered
Charles Ray & Eames 1950 Eames Plastic Side Chair is a contemporary version of the legendary Fibreglass Chair.
Designer: Charles & Ray Eames 1950
This is an original genuine Vitra piece.
Plastic Armchairs were first presented as part of a New York Museum of Modern Art competition Low Cost Furniture Design. Their organically shaped plastic seat shells were later combined with various different bases and manufactured in their millions.
In their latest version made of polypropylene the armchairs now offer even greater sitting comfort. To complement the product line the fully-upholstered plastic chair has been re-launched. The organically shaped upholstered shells are particularly comfortable and radiate a homely atmosphere. The hopsak cover is available in a variery of colours and can be combined with the fourteen colours of seat shell. The upholstery is fixed to the shell with black or white piping.
The average human height has increased worldwide by nearly 10 cm over the past 60 years, resulting in a growing awareness of the need to adapt the dimensions of classic chair designs to fit new proportions. In comparison to the taller heights of most tables and seating today, many people felt that the Eames Plastic Chairs were too low. Vitra is now responding to the requirements and needs of its customers by adding 20 mm to the height of the Eames Plastic Chairs DSX, DAX, DSR, DAR, DSW and DAW, while also revising the seat geometry. These modifications, which are aesthetically almost imperceptible, substantially increase the comfort of this classic chair design, especially in combination with contemporary tables.
Materials: Polypropylene seat shell dyed through with base in chrome or powder coated dark grey and upholstery in hopsack fabric.
