A Table That Earns Its Place
The Asserbo Table has the quiet authority of furniture designed for actual use. Børge Mogensen created it in 1961 to meet his own needs — and that practicality is visible in every detail. The gently rounded form invites people to gather around it without ceremony. The dark-oiled eucalyptus is warm and deeply grained, the brushed brass screws a considered detail that adds character without decoration. It works equally well in a family dining room, a holiday home, or a restaurant — and it looks better the more it is used.
Eucalyptus has a naturally expressive grain and stronger tonal contrast than many furniture timbers. Small marks or light scratches can appear more visible than they would on lighter woods, but over time these settle into the surface and form part of the table's natural patina. It is a material that ages honestly.
The Asserbo Series
The Asserbo Series — table and bench — draws clearly from the Shaker tradition: honest materials, visible structure, nothing superfluous. Originally produced in pine, the series is now made from dark-oiled eucalyptus — a harder, more durable wood with a calm grain, reddish-brown tone, and natural scarcity of knots. The wood is FSC™ certified, sourced from sustainably forested, fast-growing eucalyptus. Matching benches are available with a fixed or wall-mounted backrest, and loose seat cushions in textile.
Ex-Display, Exceptional Price
This is an ex-display piece from The Innes Gallery, offered at £1,200 against a standard retail price of £2,000 — a saving of £800. It has been maintained to showroom standard throughout and is in great condition. It has a few minor scuffs on it, which are part of the natural patination process.
