Vitra Eames DCW Plywood Group Chair
Designer: Charles & Ray Eames 1945/46
This is an original genuine Vitra piece.
Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with new processes for optimizing the way three-dimensionally moulded plywood fits the contours of the body. The result was the Plywood Group with its moulded plywood seat backrest and base. The organic shape and the wood's cosy warmth invite users to sit down and relax.
The DCW (Dining Chair Wood) bears witness to the ultimate success of Charles and Ray Eames' early experiments with moulding plywood into complex shapes. Made entirely of wood, the appearance of this iconic chair remains as contemporary today as when it was first conceived.
Materials: Back/seat: moulded plywood with face veneer in ash or walnut.
Base: moulded plywood with same face veneer as the back and seat. Seat and backrest attached to the base with shock mounts (bonded rubber and metal connectors).
