Vitra | The Eames Collection: Forever Modern

New 2025 colours for the Eames Collection

When you think of timeless design, it’s hard not to think of Charles and Ray Eames. The husband-and-wife duo didn’t just design furniture; they shaped a vision of modern living that balanced function, playfulness, and beauty. More than just designers, they were visionaries who believed furniture should serve everyday life with beauty, function, and joy. Their work wasn’t about trends — it was about shaping a way of living that feels as relevant today as it did over half a century ago.

For decades, Vitra has been the caretaker of this legacy. Working closely with the Eames family, Vitra has not only preserved the integrity of Charles and Ray’s designs but also allowed them to evolve as lifestyles, technologies, and values shift. The result is a collection that feels as fresh today as it did when it first appeared — a true testament to the Eames’ belief that “the details are not the details; they make the design.”

In line with this sustainable vision, Vitra is also rethink the materials it uses. To shorten supply chains and reduce reliance on overused woods such as oak, the company is expanding its range of European-grown options. Alongside oak and ash, the collection now features cherry, chestnut, and walnut — each bringing its own warmth and character to the furniture.

The Eames Collection is the first within Vitra’s portfolio to introduce these new woods, offering a fresh natural aesthetic to familiar classics. At the same time, tradition is carefully preserved: Palisander from Bolivia remains available for the Eames Lounge Chair, honouring the material that Charles and Ray Eames originally chose for one of their most iconic creations.

The Eames Collection has never been about nostalgia. It has always been about possibility — about what design can do for the way we live. With the 2025 Collection, Vitra shows that honouring a legacy doesn’t mean standing still; it means carrying forward the spirit of innovation and adaptability that made it timeless in the first place.

These changes go beyond material updates. Today, our homes are more versatile than ever: part living space, part workplace, part retreat. The renewed Eames Collection reflects this shift. Pieces are designed to move seamlessly between different roles, offering flexibility without losing timeless elegance.

Design classics can easily become museum pieces — admired, but not lived with. What makes the Eames Collection special is its ability to adapt. By reworking the collection for 2025, Vitra ensures these icons aren’t frozen in time but remain part of everyday life.

In this way, the Eames vision continues: design that responds to human needs, that evolves alongside culture, and that always finds a way to feel fresh, relevant, and alive.

The New updates in the Collection reminds us that great design is never finished. It continues to evolve, just like the lives it was created to support. Forever modern.
