Sweeping Arms Around a Cushioned Seat

The Knoll MR Bauhaus 100th Anniversary Edition Lounge Armchair brings curved tubular steel arms into the MR's open, cantilevered form. Removable upholstered cushions soften the seat and back, while the polished chrome frame traces a flowing outline around them. The arms give this version a more enclosing character than the armless lounge chair without filling in the space beneath the seat.

Leather-covered structural straps support the cushions, keeping the construction visible from the sides and rear. With a footprint of 65 × 92cm, the armchair suits a dedicated reading corner or a seating arrangement where its curved profile can be seen. A small table alongside gives you a place for a book or drink without interrupting the chair's outline.

The MR collection belongs to Mies van der Rohe's early explorations of steel furniture. Its curves recall earlier iron rocking chairs, reinterpreted through a restrained combination of metal, straps and upholstery.
