Manufacturer: Knoll | Designer: Marcel Breuer, 1925

The Chair Born from a Bicycle

The Wassily Lounge Chair reduces the familiar club chair to an open arrangement of tubular steel and suspended leather. Marcel Breuer's design replaces a solid upholstered body with clearly defined lines and planes, allowing views through the frame. Black cowhide leather forms the seat, back and arm supports, contrasting with the polished chrome steel.

This Quickship version pairs black cowhide leather with a polished chrome frame. Its open construction gives the chair a distinct presence without the visual bulk of a fully upholstered lounge chair, whether used on its own or alongside a sofa.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: W79 × D69 × H73cm (seat height 42cm)
  • Frame: seamless 1″ diameter tubular steel, polished chrome
  • Upholstery: black cowhide leather
  • Glides: opaque plastic glides supplied for optional on-site insertion when using the chair on hard floors
  • Authentication: the frame is stamped with the Knoll logo and Marcel Breuer’s signature

For the full range of frame finishes and upholstery options, see the Knoll Wassily Lounge Chair. Part of the Knoll Breuer Collection. Browse the full Knoll Lounge Chairs and Lounge Chairs collections at Innes.
