RAR — Rocking Armchair, Rod Base

The Eames Plastic Armchair RE RAR is the rocking chair of the Eames family — the same organic armchair shell mounted on a wire rod base with solid maple runners. First presented at MoMA's Low Cost Furniture Design competition in 1950, the RAR has since become one of the most recognisable chairs in the world. The gentle rocking motion and low, enveloping shell make it as suited to a reading corner or nursery as it is to a living room.

The shell is produced from recycled post-consumer plastic sourced through Germany's Yellow Bag (Gelber Sack) scheme, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions versus virgin plastic. At end of life, the shells are 100% recyclable. Due to the nature of the recycled material, shell colours carry very subtle specks of pigment.
