The Knitting Chair in Black-Stained Oak

The Knitting Chair was first designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen in 1951, originally launched as a limited edition. Reissued by Audo Copenhagen, this black oak version offers a more contemporary take on the classic silhouette, pairing a black-stained solid oak frame with a lacquer finish that brings out the natural woodgrain with a subtle gloss. The ivory Barnum Boucle upholstery provides a striking contrast, soft and tactile against the dark frame, and together the two materials emphasise the chair’s sculptural shape.

Its name comes from the signature elbow cut-outs in the backrest, shaped to provide natural arm support whether you are reading, knitting, or simply at rest. The curved plywood shell is meticulously handcrafted in Sweden, combining traditional artisan techniques with modern production to achieve a result that is both refined and enduring.
