A Table That Grows With the Occasion
The BM0121 solves a problem most dining tables ignore: how to seat six people comfortably without dominating the room when it’s just two. At 120cm in diameter it sits lightly in a kitchen or dining room — round enough to encourage conversation, compact enough not to crowd the space. Pull out the insert leaf and it extends to 180cm, ready for a dinner party without any rearranging of the room around it.
Mogensen designed it in 1952 for exactly this kind of everyday flexibility. The proportions are precise: a 19mm FSC™-certified solid oak top, slightly tapered legs, and an upwardly curving apron that creates genuine leg room rather than just the appearance of it. Bent steel profiles beneath the top add structural stability without adding visual weight. The result is a table that feels considered from every angle — including underneath.
Oak Soap gives a lighter, pale Scandinavian tone that works well in neutral or bright interiors. Oak Oil brings out the natural warmth and grain of the wood for a richer, more classic look. Oak White Oil sits between the two — a soft, milky finish that diffuses the grain without losing it. Oak Clear Lacquer seals the surface for a more durable, low-maintenance finish with a subtle sheen. The extension leaf is available in matching solid oak or in MDF in Black or Grey — a practical option that adds quiet contrast without competing with the table.
Mogensen first presented the BM0121 at the Arts and Crafts Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1952, designed as part of a democratic furniture series for smaller homes. When Carl Hansen & Søn relaunched it, no drawings existed — the design was recreated entirely by measuring an original model by hand. That level of fidelity to the source is rare, and it shows in the result: a table that feels genuinely of its era without feeling dated.
