This piece is available in more than 500 colours and 6 different grades of leather. The new 2014 comfort version of the Barcelona chair is the result of the study of the Knoll historical archive. The Glass House or Johnson house, built in 1949 in New Canaan, Connecticut, was designed by Philip Johnson as his own residence. The Glass House is furnished primarily with designs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, manufactured exclusively by Knoll since 1953. The adapted, softer cushions achieve a high level of comfort and a new range of natural aniline leathers (Venezia - 5 colours) has also been introduced and are of superior quality. As they are a natural aniline they are incredibly luxurious but do need to be treated carefully and will patinate over time. The Comfort Barcelona is also available in the existing 5 grades of leather as well.

Frame: Chrome steel hand-ground and hand-buffed to mirror finish or onyx ultra matte. Upholstery straps attached with aluminium rivets.
Upholstery Straps: for the upholstery in Venezia leather or in black leather the straps are dyed to match the same cushion upholstery colour; for all other leathers the exposed parts of the straps are covered with the same cushion upholstery leather. Chair contains 17 belting support straps, stool 7.
Belts: On the ultra-matte onyx version, the colour of the belts is always black. On the chrome-finish version, the colour of the belts is always specified in the code. for the upholstery in Venezia leather or in black leather the straps are dyed to match the same cushion upholstery colour; for all other leathers the exposed parts of the straps are covered with the same cushion upholstery leather. The chair has 17 belts and the stool has 7.
Upholstery: 40 individual panels for the chair and 16 for the stool are cut hand-welted and hand-tufted with leather and buttons produced from a single cowhide. Cushions are variable density foam covered with polyester fiberfills to enhance comfort and upholstered with top quality leather.
