Designed Around Light
Created in 1958 for Copenhagen's Langelinie Pavilion, the PH Artichoke grew from ideas Poul Henningsen had explored with the PH Septima glass light in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Its 72 metal leaves are arranged in 12 rows of six, carefully positioned to shield the light source and distribute illumination both inwards and outwards. The original setting still houses the design today.
The overlapping leaves give the pendant its distinctive sculptural presence. Light catches the inner surfaces and brings depth to the layered form, making the Artichoke as much a focal point as a source of illumination. Smaller sizes suit a dining table or living area, while the larger versions have the scale for lofty halls and generous interior spaces.
Four diameters are offered: 48, 60, 72 and 84cm. Brass, Copper, Stainless Steel, White and Black are available across these sizes. Dusty Blue, Dusty Green and Soft White are offered in 48 and 60cm. Soft White pairs a lower-gloss exterior with a brass metallised frame, distinguishing it from the glossier standard White with its chrome-plated frame. The Brass, Copper and Stainless Steel finishes are brushed and coated, rather than untreated metal.
