Conference Comfort, Without Compromise

Mikado is a chair with a serene yet commanding aura — one that impresses not through visual drama but through the quality of the experience it delivers. Upholstered on all sides, with a backrest that reclines at a gentle angle via an ingeniously simple concealed mechanism, it offers a level of comfort that belies its refined silhouette.

The Four Star Base version brings Mikado into the conference and meeting room. Mounted on a swivel aluminium base with glides, it meets EN 16139 for conference seating and is available with a polished or powder-coated basic dark finish. The armless Side Chair form pairs seamlessly with the Mikado Armchair Four Star Base for a unified look around any table.

Sustainability is embedded in the design from the outset. Covers are unglued and fully removable for cleaning or replacement. The inner seat panel is made of aluminium with a high recycled content, and the backrest shell is produced from recycled post-consumer polypropylene, which can be easily separated from the foam padding during recycling. The concept of a simple exchange of components gives Mikado long-term versatility, thereby ensuring longevity.

Seat height: 505 mm (440 mm with applied load, measured in accordance with EN 1335-1:2000).
Four-star swivel base: aluminium with polished finish or powder-coated in basic dark, on glides in accordance with EN 16139.
Seat substructure: aluminium inner seat panel and aluminium support bridge for the pedestal base always powder-coated in basic dark.
Cover: not glued, in fabric or leather with two seams along the sides of the backrest; replacement by trained professionals only.
Note: none of the components are glued and they can all be separated according to material for recycling.
Due to British fire safety regulations, V-Foam is not used in the UK. Fire retardants would have to be added to the formula, which would make it impossible to recycle V-Foam separately.

Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby

Barber and Osgerby founded their own studio in East London in 1996, both at the age of 30 and since then have gained international recognition. Alongside creating their own work, they have also dedicated time to focus on helping and supporting new generations of designers through their lectures and workshops.

Their work embraces elements from architecture, sculpture and interiors making their pieces unique. Experimenting with colour and materiality also makes their work exciting and fun.
