Flos Taraxacum Family
From Soft Cocoon to Exposed Light
The Flos Taraxacum family brings together two distinct approaches to sculptural lighting. The original Taraxacum S, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960, wraps a steel framework in cocoon resin. Its translucent skin softens the outline and diffuses the light, creating a rounded pendant with a gentle presence above a dining table or in a living space.
Achille Castiglioni took a different direction with Taraxacum 88 in 1988. Polished aluminium triangles support clusters of exposed bulbs, turning the light sources themselves into the defining feature. Available as a pendant and a ceiling or wall fitting, this later design has a more open, reflective character.
Choose the cocoon design for softly diffused light, or Taraxacum 88 for the rhythm and visual impact of exposed globes. Both make the construction part of the expression, with contrasting materials that give each design its own place within the family.
