A Chandelier Built Around Exposed Light

Taraxacum 88 turns the light bulb itself into the defining feature of a chandelier. Achille Castiglioni's 1988 design arranges clear globes around a geometric core of polished aluminium triangles, creating a luminous cluster with no enclosing shade. Light comes directly from the bulbs and is reflected by the metal surfaces between them.

The two sizes give this idea different scales. S1 combines 20 aluminium triangles with 60 bulbs in an 80cm-diameter form. S2 expands the structure to 40 triangles and 120 bulbs, with a diameter of 105cm. Both need space around them, making them compelling choices for a generous dining room, an open stairwell or a larger communal interior.

Unlike the earlier cocoon-covered Taraxacum, the 88 leaves its construction exposed. The contrast between clear glass and reflective aluminium gives it a precise, architectural character, with the individual light sources forming the outer shape.
