The Model 108: An Asymmetric Mid-Century Icon

Designed by Alexander Girard for Knoll in 1948, the Model 108 coffee table trades strict geometry for a free-flowing, asymmetric outline. Its organic shape reflects the clean lines and playful spirit of mid-century design, and Girard's conviction that 'Art is only art when it is synonymous with living.'

The top is built on a Baltic birch core with a bevelled edge and finished in a choice of natural oak, walnut or ebonised oak veneer, while the slim legs are cold-rolled steel tube in a black powder coat. The dark frame contrasts with the warm veneers and keeps the outline visually light.

The asymmetric shape lets the table sit with the straight side or the curve towards your seating, making it easy to position in both residential and commercial settings, and its generous surface works equally well as a coffee table or a sofa table.
