A Design With History
Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL 45 Radiohus Pendant in the 1940s as part of his total vision for Radiohuset — the Danish Broadcasting House in Copenhagen. A building in which he controlled every detail, from the architecture to the light fittings. The pendant was originally called ‘The Office Lamp’, and its clean, considered form proved quietly influential: historical photographs show it hanging above the Eames Lounge Chair in Charles and Ray Eames’ home and studio in 1950s Los Angeles.
The VL 45 Portable takes that same mouth-blown opal glass silhouette and makes it cordless — rated IP44 for indoor and outdoor use, with a rechargeable integrated LED and a genuine leather carry strap. The design is unchanged; only its freedom of placement is new.
Light & Finish
The glass provides uniform, diffused illumination — evenly lit across the entire surface with no hot spots. The Dim to Warm function allows stepless dimming as well as four preset levels (5%, 20%, 45%, 100%), with colour temperature shifting from 2700K at full brightness down to a warmer 2000K as it dims — mimicking the behaviour of a traditional incandescent bulb.
