The Polder Character in a Smaller Footprint
The Polder Compact distils the Polder family's low-slung, horizontal character into a smaller footprint — making it a natural fit for apartments and rooms where the full Polder would overwhelm. Hella Jongerius designed it with two armrests at different heights rather than a platform end, giving it a more contained silhouette without losing the asymmetry that defines the range. The higher armrest doubles as a support for sitting sideways — useful for reading, or simply changing position.
The upholstery is one of the Polder's most considered details. Rather than standard contract fabrics, Jongerius developed textiles exclusively for Vitra — coordinated combinations of colours and weaves across the seat, back and body cushions. The four available mixes (The Antarctic Blues, The Earth Reds, The Pebble Greys, The Sea Greens) each bring a different character to the piece. Buttons in coloured plastic, aluminium and leather fasten the removable covers.
Available with the higher armrest on the left or right. Note: left and right refer to the perspective when viewing the sofa from the front.
